This is what is happening in Oregon and Washington

Very high winds that can measure over 60mph that only happen like twice every 100 years coupled with fire season and a surprisingly hot September caused trees to fall on to electric cables. This started fires and blackouts everywhere. As I understand it several 911 response centers were affected by blackouts. My advice: If you're on the coast head inland (Like, faaaar inland, good places to go would be just outside of Portland (if you're in Oregon). If you have to stay near your home then look up places near you housing evacuees, (I know for Lincoln County, Chinook Winds Casino is doing this). Comment any more information that you have please. West coast redditors please stay safe and know when to evacuate, your house is replaceable, you are not.

A non-issue to ponder: the effect on problem gambling in Oregon

Yesterday we learned that, for the foreseeable future, bars and restaurants in Oregon are shut down for dine-in/drink-in customers. Today, we learned that the area's casinos Illani, Spirit Mountain, Chinook Winds, are also shutting down. The area's few poker rooms are also shutting down or in the process.
Except for the lottery options at your local convenience store (Keno, Megabucks, Powerball, etc.), the options for gamblers in this state have disappeared.
For those who have gambling issues or it is a large part of their social or recreational lives, this is going to be a shock. Perhaps it will give some people who have been in a perpetual spiral time to heal. Perhaps some will not be able to cope with the lack of playing options and do rash things. As someone who, in the past, has battled with my own gambling demons, I understand the power lure of the endorphins that are generated while gambling. Some compare it to the highs of drugs or alcohol.
Perhaps this period of "drying out" for the problem gamblers will be a good thing. In fact, I know it will. If you know someone like this, be kind to them. Their withdrawls from it are no less valid or difficult than that of an alcoholic or chronic drug user quitting cold turkey.

Bill Oman (March 29, 1943 - June 20, 2020)

BILL OMAN
March 29, 1943 - June 20, 2020
On Saturday, June 20, 2020, Bill Oman, loving husband and father, passed away at age 77.
Bill was born on March 29, 1943 in Forest Grove, Oregon to Emerson and Mary (Mead) Oman. He graduated from Moses Lake High School and attended a year at Brigham Young University before joining the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1969. Bill excelled in the Marine Corps, where he received a Rifle Expert Badge, Pistol Expert Badge, as well as a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Services Medal.
Bill met Tita Suzara on the Fourth of July, 1965. She was attending nursing school at the University of Southern California. After dating for one weekend, Bill received a 30-day leave and they drove to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they got married at the Clark County Courthouse. This would be the beginning of an incredible journey and partnership that lasted nearly 55 years.
Bill joined his father in Tri Cities, Washington and opened up an insurance agency with State Farm in 1976, before relocating to Vancouver in 1980. His State Farm office became a successful family venture as his wife, Tita, ran the office and his children all spent time at some point working in the family business. He was able to retire early after two decades of selling insurance.
Bill enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his family at big get togethers, traveling, and pushing the buttons on his favorite Keno machines at Chinook Winds Casino. He was known for his quick wit, infectious laugh, and ability to talk to anyone about anything. At family get togethers, you could always count on hearing his voice get louder and louder to rise above the rest, which is an Oman trait. He would then come over the top with a hilarious take or, at least, drop a, “Can I tell you something?”
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Emerson; mother, Mary; and son-in-law, Loren.
He is survived by his wife, Tita; his four children, Mylene, Carl, Bill, and Randy; his brother, Kent; his two sisters, Carlene and Sandra; his grandchildren, Tiana, Emily, Kyle, Jared, Mattea, Harrison, Tommy, Joe, DJ, Hannah, Ava, and William; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A military funeral service will be held on July 31st, 2020, at Willamette National Cemetery.

Mini-Vacation Ideas?

My husband's birthday was last week, and he has this weekend off (he typically works th-sun). We live in Kelso, and we want to take a mini-vacation Saturday and Sunday nights. I want to do something neither of us has done before, and maybe something we can take our two-year-old to (we can make arrangements for him to stay with grandparents if necessary).
I thought about possibly going to the San Juan Islands, but I'm not sure what all there is to do this time of the year.
Do you guys have any ideas of something fun to do on a quick weekend away this time of year?
EDIT: UPDATE:Thank you guys for all of your suggestions! I went over all of your recommendations with my husband, but ultimately he decided to head down the Oregon Coast. We stayed at the Inn at Spanish Head in Lincoln City. We had a nice, almost-tech-free weekend. We only used our phones for directions and Yelp. Oh, and to find a co-op ATM. Saturday we just took our time driving down, went shopping at the outlet mall when we got to town and then had dinner at the restaurant at the hotel. Sunday we just drove down 101. Stopped and checked out some tide pools at low tide and then kept driving. We stopped in Newport at Ripley's and checked out the shops at the harbor. Then we went back and went to Chinook Winds casino. Monday we took our time packing up to go, and drove up 101 to Tillamook to the cheese factory, then came home.

From BWW to a Beach Casino LoL Convention! Come join the party for the World Championships!

First, I want to thank those at Riot, and the Reddit Communities support from last years opportunities, and lets not forget a special thank you to everyone who showed up for our event last year, including the many people that were left in the parking lot wanting to join us.
Without your support last year, I would not have been putting so much effort into this year. Thank you so much for helping me become a host for one of the most exciting nights for many of us each year.

It's that time of the year again! The World Championships on October 19th is approaching!

Last year, for those who do not know, we had a quite large event held at Buffalo Wild Wings in Salem, Oregon for the 2013 World Championship Finals. Everyone who made it inside had a great night, however unfortunately, many stayed home because I could not guarantee them a reserved seat. Even though we could not reserve any more seating, there were many that tried to get in, but unfortunately were left outside to watch on their tablets and phones.
We do not want this to be a problem this year so we have reserved the Chinook Winds Casino Resort's Concert Hall on the beach in Lincoln City, Oregon. (this is only an hours drive from last years event in Salem)
This will be an all age event and this venue holds over 1000 people. Unfortunately, this venue is quite expensive for us compared to last year. We are allowing those who want to support us to pre-order tickets right now for a limited time to ensure you can get your seat as well as a few extra bonus perks for your contribution.
There is so much going on this year for our event, that we upgraded it to a convention style atmosphere. Lets not forget, we have 4 colleges competing in a random knockout to be played right at the event!

Here is a short list of what someone might expect when attending this party.

The list seriously goes on and it keeps expanding with more and more awesomeness almost daily!
If anyone is interested in attending, volunteering, contributing, or even sharing ideas, let me know we are very open to ideas and help.
You can pre-order through the reddit crowdtilt page at https://lolviewingparty.crowdtilt.com And get more information about the event at http://lolviewingparty.com
Also, if you are from the NW region of the USA, feel free to join our private facebook group of close to 1,800 people near this area.
Thanks again everyone and I hope to see you at this years awesome event!
